What is Lifespan Religious Education?
Lifespan
Religious
Education
(LRE) at UUFF is centered upon the Seven Principles of Unitarian Universalism and draws wisdom from the world’s religions and philosophical traditions. Our holistic, experiential learning opportunities for children, youth, and adults are tailored to the developmental capacities and needs of people of all ages and abilities, while nurturing a sense of sacred self and a lifelong Unitarian Universalist faith. Our religious education offerings support the spiritual growth of members of our community seeking an intimate connection with divine mystery, as they perceive it, and a Unitarian Universalist framework for moral decision-making. Religious education offers both active and contemplative learning styles while incorporating social action and leadership elements.
A
Lifespan Religious Education Committee that includes the Director of Lifespan Religious Education provides religious education leadership at UUFF. The committee ascertains the values, needs and preferences of the congregation and provides a vision for a religious education ministry that reflects these values. The Committee leads the congregation in creating and sustaining educational activities that are reflective of that vision, including curriculum-based courses, small groups, and intergenerational worship. The Committee is also responsible for: providing relevant training to religious education teachers and leaders; coordinating religious functions and routinely assessing the effectiveness of LRE functions; educating the congregation about the importance of religious education throughout the lifespan and the role of religious education within the Unitarian Universalist movement; and providing administrative and financial oversight of religious education at UUFF.
